Kpop: Tiger JK ft Yoon Mi Rae - Forever (반가워요)

I am greatly sympathetic for what Tiger JK, Yoon Mirae and all their allies (as in MFBTY for example) stand for in contrast to the usual kpop, but still the music doesn't quite do it for me in the long run (not much rap does). So even though I liked their videos this winter (especially Bang Diggy Bang Bang) it wasn't enough for me to add them to the list of "listanable" music. It is ironic then that the new Forever is the first song that does it for me, as it is slow songs that most often is no-no's for me in most east asian music. The melancholy in Tiger JK's song for his fans suits the visual theme perfectly and it is somehow more "believable" than the videos before that was more of fantasies. The ethereal song of his wife Yoon Mirae contrast nicely and all in all I think it's a great piece of contemporary korean hip hop.

  • MFBTY (Yoon Mirae, Tiger JK, Bizzy) - Bang Diggy Bang Bang (방뛰기방방)
  • Tiger JK ft Jinsil of Mad Soul Child - Reset
  • MFBTY ft EE & Rap Monster - Buckubucku (부끄부끄)

Mandopop: Wang Yuling (Miss Cat / 汪妤凌)

Wang Yuling was a medium successful contestant (an exemple here) in the first season (2012) of Voice of China. The one interesting song is from her following solo career is "Miss Swag", from her 2013 album Next Level, with both an attitude and visual style not seen before or after that.

Mandopop: Da Mouth - Swag (調調)

DaMouth's 5th album Back From The Future is a retro album where they started of with three really glorious 80s themed disco/dance songs. Now the follow up with a nod to "modern" twerking and eurodisco. I won't say I love this more sobe theme but it is interesting to see them continue to realise their great idea.

Jpop: Charisma.com - Otsubone Rock (お局ロック)

From the same album as "Kongara Girl", Charisma.com now releases "Otsubone Rock". An Otsubone is a woman who has worked for a long time at an office, and is often meant in a bad meaning like her not having a life outside the office.

Mandopop/Cantopop/rock: Josie & The Uni Boys

The Hong Kong actress cum singer Josie Ho has taken a rather different path than many others in the same situation by going into indie rock, and rather interesting such.
