Mandopop: Beauty Lo - What's Wrong!(你幹嘛!)

This was a hard one to track down properly, but as far as I can understand, mega star Show Lou crossdressed in a challenge in the show Go Fighting! under the alias Beaty Lo (looking like the thai weight lifter winning the 48kg class in Rio). This became so popular that he then had to do a music video about it, this being it. :-D
The name of the song in chinese, actually means "What are you doing?" but depending on tone it can also mean as translated, "What's Wrong!".

Japan: Yuko Oshima meets the Kano Sisters

It is hard to miss that my blog takes it name from japanese Yuko Oshima, the extremely charming and popular ex-AKB48 member that for represents much of my ideal personality would be. Everyone who follows japanese pop and their idol groups can't miss out on how chaste the girls are supposed to be. Even a suggestion of one of them having a boy-friend may merit exclusion from all activities. It may then come as a surprise when we get to see her not only visit but do ... things ... that we almost wouldn't see on sexually liberated swedish television. The Kano Sisters are known for their big 'charms', but actually their fan base is as much women as men. Please read this very nuanced article before you judge them. The short clip is also an excellent peek into the kind of anti-stylish and very folksy TV shows that are so popular in Japan. Yuko Oshima shows what a big heart she has, expanding the narrow idol role to something more and meaningful, something about human equality and even love.

Mandopop: Yang Fan - Grandma Yang (陽婆婆)

When Taiwanese TV host and singer Yang Fan returned two years ago to reprise his fictive character Grandma Yang he wasn't sure what the reception would be, it and the song became quite popular. And the song is very much even for us who didn't watch the original show, with very much visual jokes and a music track that has a little surprising and crazy edge to it (with lovely bitpop added too!).

Kdrama: Lie to me (내게 거짓말을 해봐)

If you want a Korean drama that mostly stays in the romantic corner from start to end, for a Korean drama, that is, you could do much worse than Lie to me. The story's central theme revolves around the female protagonist, Kong Ah-Jung, who's a government worker at the Tourism Board, ie a not very glorious job, and the rich and eligible bachelor Hyun Ki-Joon, who is the president for a great hotel company. The key moment which drives the rest of the story, is when Ah-Jung, pressured by her married peers, lies to them that she is married to Ki-Joon. Admittedly, it all starts of as a misunderstanding (of course), but then you can guess what happens along the way. The 16 episodes is handle with just the right amount of drama and humour and romance, and the clumsy and charming Ah-Jung is really heart-warming, and I like how the female star is allowed to be portrayed all along as a more whimsical and "real" character than you could expect from the often superficial Korean media. Also, they actually let one of the "bad guys" (no, I wont say whom) to evolve during the story in a way that you don't see to often anywhere in the world in these kind of romcom's.
