Thai pop: C Cup

Well, now. A group with the name C Cup (from Thailand). That debuts with the song "Take It Off". And their logo is the final clincher if there was any doubt. What could their 'thing' be, mayhaps?...and the video doesn't exactly contradict this either... ;-) It has all been done before in Japan or Korea, but it's a first for me seeing this kind of high octane combination of sexual cliches in Thai pop.

Jpop: Big Porno (ビッグポルノ)

The name of Big Porno may make you think this is a japanese AV movie, but then you are completely wrong as its a six man (five men and one woman to be correct) group. Well…and then you aren't completely wrong as the name is partly true as their themes are related to sex quite often. It may panties, the cup sizes of bra's or even pubic hair. This may not be so interesting for non-japanese speakers, but their latest "Blood Japan Tear" is something extra as the electronic sounds and beats are fantastic in my opinion, combined with a video that's a step more serious than before.

Kpop: Gain - Fxxk U

While in some sense Gain could be seen only in the perspective as the latest and most explicit example of this winters new wave of more open sexualized kpop videos, she has a credibility in this area that stretches beyond and before this. Her Bloom is en excellent example of that. For contrast, one could compare her with Hyuna and her part in for example the recent "Now" (in the duo Troublemaker). While Hyuna provokes and explores these sexual boundaries that kpop and korean media culture has created, she does so from inside somehow. Gain, on the other hand, is to Hyuna what Madonna is to Britney Spears - she projects a sexuality that implies that she is in the center and that it is about her, not only for you as a viewer. If Bloom it was about life-affirming lust, "Fxxk U" is the complete opposite, but without the somehow glorification of Troublemakers "Now". In the video we can see all the terrible phases of an abusive and destructive relationship, and while there is explicit scenes they don't feel quite as objectified as one would expect normally from kpop, rather they suit the mood. The song is not that memorable, but the video confirms Ga-In as the woman who dares explore the sexual boundaries of kpop like no-one else does.

Kpop: Spica - Tonight (투나잇)

"Tonight" from Spica I actually finds a little funny. Korea and kpop is known for somehow being sexual  without never actually being explicit about it like in the West or Japan, partly due to a diligent goverment that classifies sexual content so that explicit lyrics or videos can only be shown under restricted and limited conditions. As in all cases of cencorship, this just makes the creative be more creative. It may very well be my imagination, but this video seems to be very much about sex and even drugs. It left me smiling at least, as it must have been quite fun to make this video. ^_^
