Movie: Finding Mr Right (北京遇上西雅图)

Finding Mr Right is a chinese movie taking place in both China and America. The literal meaning of the chinese title is Beijing meets Seattle, and that complements the english title as this chinese movie is about chinese in both China and in the US. The lead role Jia Jia goes to America to try to time her visit there to when her child is born as that gives it American citizenship. This practice is ofc discouraged by the americans and therefore she and other mothers in similar situation must hide in a house for pregnant women. The father is a rich man back in China, whom she is the mistress of, but at the same time there is another love interest in Seattle. So the story unfolds. The quality is typical for modern Chinese romantic dramas, ie Hollywood quality, and if you like this type of movie then this fits right in. The quality is good enough and not to cheesy, so it is a good choice for a friday evening.

Movie: One Night Surprise (一夜惊喜)

There is nothing unique about the story or cinematics in One Night Surprise, the production values is like any high-end Hollywood production, and the story is a well told but familiar one about a girl who wakes up pregnant and she has to figure out which of three candidates it is. But. The movie is Chinese, with super star Fan Bingbing in the lead role (and Asian-American Daniel Henney as one of the male leads) and the polished surroundings is not from the usual New York, but city-hubs like Shanghai and Beijing. This is part of a rising prescence of asian movies on the world scene, which is now beginning to affect even Hollywood. With 1,3 billion Chinese just in China, and a growing economy, the potential for movie productions is of course big and the number of high-cost movies per year is increasing quickly.
