Kpop: 9Muses - Yes or No

The girls of 9Muses have a steady and working concept as sexy pinup girls with easy-to-like (k)pop songs with just the right amount of substance to excuse watching their videos, an idea which I found slightly spoiled by their latest video Heart Locker. Therfore it is refreshing to see them release a slightly (for them) experimental video, as the whole of "Yes or No" is filmed as a long Instagram selfie with the girls also singing a much more laid-back and charming song than one would expect from them. I like it and I hope this is not only a creative way to cut production costs but instead rather means that they will develop positively from now on.

Kpop: 9Muses - Glue(글루)

If I was to mention one kpop group that I would say delivers the highest percentage of good songs and videos, not the best but never failing or being boring, then I would give you 9Muses. Their concept is to do uptempo and uncomplicated videos with they 9 memebers showing of their looks. They usually have some kind of loose visual theme, with the last one for Gun being maybe the best one, but its really just an excuse to do almost pin-up style photoshoots of the girls. It's objectification, of course, like most of the other kpop, but somehow 9Muses does their thing consistently and with a smile without going to the extreme (again, Gun is a prime example, do watch it). The new song "Glue" is somewhat simpler than Gun, the theme here being kind of Friday at the disco. It does make me think they have tried to copy AOA's latest "Confused", which is better both visually and musically, but that is the point - 9Muses may not rock the show or place in the top spot, but they always deliver.

Honestly here is my idea how 9Muses company is reasoning: "Lets give them just suffficiently good songs so we then can focus on selling the girls as the best pinup kpop group out there. Do each video like a showroom (using some thin theme) of the girls posing and being generally sensual/sexual, not vulgar but also not too innocent.". This may sound like a critique, but it is actually not. 9Muses is one of the most even and "trustworthy" kpop groups I know, you really know what you get with them, for good and bad.

Kpop: Nine Muses (나인뮤지스)

The promotions before 9Muses latest single pushed much on the fact that they would have "dark" and "light" muses. Being a fan of dramatic scenes and evil vs good, I cant say I see much of that since they all take on both colors, so lets just enjoy the music and video.
