Mandopop: Li Yuchun/Chris Lee (李宇春)

Li Yuchun (or her english name Chris Lee) from China was widely debated when she won the idol competition Super Girl in 2005 as she had a tomboyish/androgynous styling which didn't follow the usual beauty standard. She has since then risen to become one of the most famous chinese singers, but for me her music hasn't really done it for until this year. First the interesting "Dance to the music", and now, the superb synth retro video of "In 1987, I didn't know I would meet you".

Mandopop: Laure Shang (尚雯婕)

Laure Shang (Shang Wenjie) from Shanghai became famous through her win in the last season of Super Girl in 2006. There is two versions of Little Star, with the "starlight" version being fully english, while the other is more mandarin based.

Mandopop: Elva Hsiao - Elva Super Girl

Elva Hsiao does the superhero theme with "Elva Super Girl", and its a real fun-fest, a small comic movie in itself. And a touch of irony, I hope. ;-) One can indeed question the double message of female liberation through knowing how to seduce men...but it is an entertaining video.

Kpop: Super Junior (슈퍼주니어)

Super Junior is probably the most successful kpop boyband on the international scale. Its size has varied between 10-13, depending on what everyone is doing at any given moment (like military service).
