Kpop: Orange Caramel - My Copycat (나처럼 해봐요)

Finally Orange Caramel's new "My Copycat" is here, and I soo wanna be a fanboy and say that "The song is good and the video concept is fantastic" but I honestly was a bit disappointed with the song. It's just that OC has done this a number of times now, and even if I love the concept, it becomes very obvious from when the song is tedious that they may need to evolve now. I loved Catallena and Abing Abing, but that was because the fun video didn't excuse making a interesting song. this has more the character of a gimmick with (gimmicky) sounds added. Yes, it is a little fun with the idea of creating extra value for watching many times, but it's not enough. Basta.

Kpop: Orange Caramel - Abing Abing (아빙아빙)

Orange Caramel follows up their great "Catallena" with a summer hit called "Abing Abing", which is a cooperation with Icecream/Cake chain Baskin Robbins. You see them everywhere in Korea (and I saw them often in Japan too), and it is a great place to cool down in the hot parts of the year. The song is a no nonsense pop song which is just about relaxing and having fun, to be played on the beach or on a summer party, and as such works quite well. As usual, my favorite trio and Pledis entertainment delivers on the video too, it is just as sweet and delicious as always.

My first and favourite kpop group Orange Caramel is finally back and I will be the first to admit that it is the visuals rather than the music that is the thing with "Catallena", but then Orange Caramel has always been very strongly tied to their cute + a little weirdness concept and this time they deliver top notch visuals. One can read much into the story of the girls being dressed as sushi fish on sale, but the text is actually about the girls singing about another girl who is so charming and attractive that they are falling in love with her, a concept that is not quite so mainstream in Korea even done as innocently as this. Anyway, with guests like the comedian Kim Dae Sung this is a kpop video not to miss this year.
