Trip to Norrland: Day 2 - Enchanted Forest (Trolska Skogen)

Continuing the trip with my children in the Northern parts of Sweden, we left in the morning from west of Söderhamn. 35 km north or Hudiksvall was the main attraction for today, Trolska Skogen, or Enchanted Forest as is its name. In the forest outside the village of Jättendal (which suitably enough literally means The Giants Dale), for the third consecutive year, actors dressed as fairies and gnomes from Swedish folklore reenacts a story of where a bad which has kidnapped the small folk and needs the visitors help. After that we passed Sundsvall, Härnösand, the Höga Kusten bridge, the beautiful Höga Kusten landscape and Örnsköldsvik to reach Umeå, where we visited the outdoors part of Västerbotten Museum to see some farms with people dressed up like farmers from history plus real and wooden animals. After that we stayed the night att Lufta Camping between Umeå and Skellefteå. This day we drove roughly 500 km, but with several breaks (five) the children didn't complain much at all so  all in all another good day.

Trip to Norrland: Day 1 - Dragon Gate and Railway Museum

Today was the first day of my trip to the northern part of Sweden, "Norrland", which in its widest definition consists of seven counties (including Värmland and Dalarna), and we will visit them all. This is an extremely rough plot of the route we will follow between 13th - 19th June 2014. I haven't calculated the total milage, but with all extra stops it will probably be something like 2500 km in total.

Today the weather turned colder with some rain showers, so we cancelled the bath at Rullsand and instead visited the oddity that is Dragon Gate between Uppsala and Gävle, and then the Swedish Railway Museum in Gävle. We stayed at STF Vandrarhem Regnsjö Knyssla 30 km west of Söderhamn, a beautiful and pitoreque farm turned hotel. 310 km travelled today.
