Cantopop: Fiona Sit - Let Go & Miss Fiona

I was going to write about cantonese' Fiona Sit's new "Miss Fiona", an interesting enough video (what with the flourescent cleaning clothes and all), but then I realized I hadn't talked about "Let Go", and of course I had to tell you to listen to it, it being one of her best songs. Do it now!

Cantopop: SiS Lok's (SiS樂印姊妹)

I'm finally blogging about SiS, as they really showcase some of the unique sound qualities relative mandarin. Listen to "520" and then don't tell me you really don't agree that they utilizes the chinese dialect to the fullest degree. SiS Lok's is doubly interesting as the two sisters have made their way into greater fame through alternative media with the younger Lok Yan reaching over 3 million via her YouTube channel where they spread their videos.

Cantopop: Alex To (杜德偉)

When Alex To from Hong Kong does rockabilly, and in this charming way, I cannot avoid writing about the 52-year old actor/singer. So, "1, 2, 3, I will be shaking all the way!".

Cantopop: Keeva Mak (麥家瑜)

Keeva Mak's new "Terminally Ill" is a visually beautiful video designed well to match the dramatic (cantonese) song. This time she has that extra musical edge that has been missing before, which greatly improves her impression on me at least. But what's up with the silvery toilet? ;-)

Mandopop: JW/Joey Wong (歌手)

JW (Joey Wong) is a female singer from Hong Kong/London. She has several dance songs that are more western in their sound than many Mandopop. "I need a friend" is the new single and an obvious try to go international(?) but "Feel the bass" from last year is my number one.

Movie: Blind detective (Man Tam/盲探)

Blindness has left ex-police Johnston (Andy Lau) to survive by solving cold cases when he meets with Ho (Sammi Cheng), a female police with good fighting skills who wants him to find out what happened to her childhood friend Minnie. The two of them team up and we follow them in this nice thriller with some romantic comedy frills too. The spoken language is mostly Cantonese. All in all "Blind Detective" is a good detective movie.
