Jpop: Sakanaction - Maybe, Wind (多分、風)

How it is possible, I don't know, but I managed to miss out on this early winter single from Sakanaction, the Japanese synth band that has over the years given me the most musical enjoyment (forgive me, Perfume, but that's the truth). Their bittersweet but still soft sound is healing for the soul, and this song is no exception. And, oh, the video is just so great too!

Jpop: Sakanaction - Years, Holy dance and Slow motion

If I was to pick a Japanese act that as a whole means the most to me, it must be the Hokkaido-origin group Sakanaction. Their soft electronic melodies with a kind of hopeful mellowness that is very attractive. In August they will release their next album, a compilation consisting of B-sides and remixes. The first videos from this is Years, Holy dance and Slow motion, released almost at the same time. Without doubt for me, as it has been before, slow motion is still my favorite being much more easily accesible and rhythmic. The others has their charms too, but Slow motion really show-cases what makes me love Sakanaction. Read the excellent reviews of Years here and a shorter one with more album pics here.

Jpop: Sakanaction - Eureka (ユリイカ)

This will be the ending song for the movie Judge! which has Japanese premiere on the 14th January. It is Sakanaction's 8th single and a little daring but done in a very restrained and tasteful way I think, i.e. the same way as their music has always been.

Sakanaction has that soft electronic/alternative sound that is all indie while still being able to be mainstream if they choose to. Please give them a chance if you ever liked som kind of electronica, jpop or indie music.
