Jpop: Sasanomaly - Re:verb

I have praised one-man act Sasanomaly for his inspiring videos and the new Re:verb is no exception. In the form of an arts & crafts experiment with prints (using the same director, Atsushi Makino, as in the previous videos), it tells the classic story of how hate breeds more hate and what to do about it.

Jpop: Sasanomaly (ササノマリイ)

Sasanomaly (Sasano being his real name) or Nekobolo is a songmaker that has done lots of electronic songs using Hatsune Miku vocaloid among others, but in we can hear him sing himself in the beautiful video Synesthesia Ghost. The video makes a great use of animation where the animators (hands) are allowed to show but it just makes it even more metaphoric, a kind of love story where the main person transforms along with the girl he is chasing, the singing of Sasanomaly carrying us along.

Jpop: FEMM - L.C.S.

FEMM has released the video "L.C.S.", the follow up to "Pow!" and the second of the two previously unreleased songs on their first album "Pow! / L.C.S. + Femm-Isation", released this month. I'm not sure what the acronym stands for but it could well be "Local Coordinate System" if I was to judge from the video, again a well defined and thought through concept performed by the 'dolls' of FEMM.

Japanese indie: Mop of Head

Mop of Head from Japan is an electronic band that has soon been around for 10 years. "Retronix Symphony" got me started on them with its interesting black and white animation, but the newer "Fresh" also has some interesting symbolism.

Jpop: Suiyoubi no Campanella - Jeanne d'Arc & Peach Boy

I'm going to cover the two of Suiyoubi no Campanella's latest videos in one review. They did one of my favorite japanese songs last year, Kung Fu Lady, and while these two isn't quite up to that, they both have qualities visually and musically that lifts them up beyond most of their Japanese peers.
  • Suiyoubi no Campanella - Jeanne d'Arc (ジャンヌダルク)
  • Suiyoubi no Campanella - Peach Boy (桃太郎)
