Kpop: GP Basic (지피베이직)

I wrote about GP Basic (ins swedish) back in 2012 (in regards to them having quite young members what with all the sexualisation in kpop). Now they have returned slightly older (15-17 ...) and with a concept that reflects it in the video Pika-Burnjuck(Sleek/Shiny), with the slight uniform fetish being kind of fresh also. As the average age of kop grirls isnt much more than this, I am guessing this version of GP Basic will attract more "normal" attention.

Kpop: Gain - Truth or Dare (진실 혹은 대담)

After Gain's comeback song "Fxxk U" which was obviously meant to provoke and create some stir, comes the follow-up "Truth or Dare" which as much about image-building as music as lots of its 7+ minutes is  spent on people commenting on her. Beyond label people, we find IU and Show Luo (from Taiwan, more about him later) commenting on Gain's personality. Most of it is kind of bad critique, but of course it just builds up her public persona as pop's own Madonna even further.

Jpop: Why@Doll

The duo Why@Doll is from Sapporo which is evident from their latest video "Sunrise". I actually thought "This looks like Hokkaido!" when I watched this video the first time, and was quite happy to find out that was the case. (I also saw that they stopped at the Iwamizawa station with its horse (which must be because of the race track). Oh, how I miss the snow from Sapporo. <3

Kpop: Crayon pop & Kim Jang Hoon - Hero

Korean 47-year old singer Kim Jang Hoon teams up with Crayon Pop for a fun budget video called "Hero" where the theme is brave firemen which this song is a support for, and we therefore find the girls wearing blinking lights on their heads. Kim Jang Hoon is known for his filantropic ideals (for which he has even gotten recognition from President Obama). The song isn't much to remember but those in need of a CP fix before their next "real" release should be happy…

Jpop: KurikaMaki

KurikaMaki follows up their interesting 360-degree-music video from last summer with the super-cute video "Kuma to Nadeshiko" where the duo, consisting of DJ Kurika and MC Maki, wears bear (=Kuma) costumes and does lots of cute stuff in a way that actually feels quite fresh which is quite a feat in the kawaii world of jpop.
