Kpop: DinDin (딘딘)

I have been thinking I shouldn't like this song by korean rapper DinDin, as it's basically a song about drinking like there's no tomorrow, but really, the refrain and all is just so catchy and I at least can identify myself now and then with that feeling of wanting to just let go. So let's "Pour" and have fun now and then. ;-)

Jpop: Asako Toki - C’est La Vie

From Asako Toki's new album "Bittersweet" comes this soulful piece, with a video with her, a pair of drag queens, a young girl, and lots of nostalgia.

Mandopop: Popu Lady - Gossip Girls (花邊女孩)

The chinese idol group Popu Lady have done some fun pop songs with enjoyable videos before, but the new "Gossip Girls" is more like performance art. You quickly notice its two main themes; the sampling of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake (Four little swans) and the very artistic video. The song is a cover of german duo Symphobia's "I Do", but I must say it is the video that is the focal point this time around. The drama and obvious intentional contrast between Swan Lake dance sequence demanding synchronization and on the other hand the discord inherent in gossip, makes this a great watch.

Kpop: Exid - Hot Pink (핫핑크)

Exid's Hot Pink video seems to oscillate between sexy and horror-ish, and one can't help wonder what "pink oil" is supposed to be...is it supposed to be blood but pink is used to make it less scary? But the song is still OK, even though it kind of goes in circles. I'll be honest and say that both this and Ah Yeah from earlier this year both tries to substitute quality with attitude but it means that the music doesn't manage as well when on its own. In that sense "Every Night" from 2012 is still my favorite.

Mandopop: Momo Wu - I Wanna Be Your Lover, My Lips & Shape Up

Momo Wu has always done very colorful videos, and both "My Lips" and "Shape up" earlier this year was gorgeously and garishly so, but musically slightly so-so. The new "I wanna be your lover" is that too, but it is also musically more rewarding, with a more easily digestible score.
