Vietnamese pop: Bigdaddy & Touliver - Check That Bass

One thing I have noticed with the budding pop sound of Vietnam is its penchant for 90s european EDM/techno/eurodisco. It seems this is very popular and Bigdaddy's rap together with Touliver's sounds makes a prime example of this.

Vietnamese rap: Big Daddy ft Hanh Sino - This Is Why I'm Hot (Nóng)

The video from 24 year old vietnamese rapper Big Daddy is quite fun and the rap is done with that ironic/fun swagger that I just love, with the mostly local language making it swing even more.

Vietnamese pop: Mr T ft. Hòa Minzy - Ăn Gì Đây (Eat this??)

Beatboxer and participater of Vietnam's Got Talent in 2012, Nguyễn Cường aka Mr T finally releases a properly nice video together with female talent Hoa Minzy. "Ăn Gì Đây" roughly means "Eat this??" I think and anyways the song is about all the possibilities to eat in a land with such a rich food culture, and the video is just plain fun and energy.

Vietnamese pop: Giang Hong Ngoc

The 26 year old singer Giang Hong Ngoc from Vietnam participated in the first season of Vietnam's version of X factor in 2014 which she won. This is her new single, another example of the current similarity between quite a number of Vietnamese pop songs and classic eurodisco.

Ho Ngoc Ha ft. Noo Phuoc Thinh (Hồ Ngọc Hà ft. Noo Phước Thịnh)

Singer and actress Hồ Ngọc Hà (originally got famous as a model) from Vietnam sings with Noo Phước Thịnh in a song that would have been perfect for the Eurovision Song Contest final on Saturday as its is engaging eurodisco with harmonic Vietnamese making it a nice dance track.

Vietnames pop: Trang phap (Nguyen Thuy Trang)

Trang Phap is a 25-year old Vietnamese singer that has lived in france (her father was a professor and diplomat) and therefore she speaks and sings in different languages. We have so far seen the different songs from the cutesy "Chocolate" to more serious offers like "Forget me not", and here is now the new "At the top", that is one of the clearest pop songs so far.

Vietnamese pop: Only C ft Karik - I don't expect gifts (Anh không đòi quà)

Here's another Vietnamese artist that's unknown to me, "Only C", in a quite OK pop video. The guest rapper Karik is more anying than usual in this kind of pop, and he also plays kind of the bad guy in this video. In a nice way. The third person, is a Vietnames model/singer called Amanda Baby which I think is on the same label as Only C features in her videos too.

Vietnamese pop: Nguyen Tran(Nguyễn Trần)

Born in 1992, Nguyen Tran grew up in a non-musical family but studied music at the Hanoi College of Art from the age of 8, first starting with the piano but then switching to vocal as his major. Winning several music competitions in 2010 - 2011, his music career got of the ground for real, and the electronic track "Prone" seems like a very promising song and video.
