Iranian pop: Sogand

As I've said before, every language is like a new instrument with its own unique harmonies, so I've never bothered to much with having to understand the lyrics from the start. Listen to Sogand, the German-Iranian singer who with "My Heart" makes great use of her persian language to create a mystical and still clear atmosphere.

Iranian metal: Aliaj

The Iranian metal band Aliaj is a good example that music transcends borders and stereotypes, their melodic metal would be right at home at some metal heads home in the Swedish countryside.

Persian pop: Hamid Sefat

Even though I don't understand (or care especially much) about lyrics in pop music, I try to be careful in checking out the story behind the music I listen to (or at least the ones I blog about). I will make an exception with Hamid Sefat, as I feel his video "Che" is interesting enough to write about. It's visual language is intriguing and makes me reflect. Good enough.

  • Hamid Sefat - Che
  • Hamid Sefat feat. Mohsen Bazargan - Hiss Maloome Kojay (هیس معلومه کجای)
  • Hamid Sefat - Sookhtegan (حمید صفت سوختگان)

Uzbek pop: Feruza Jumaniyozova

Uzbekian rhythms often has a kind of backbeat (I am no musician, forgive me) that I find very attractive, but Feruza combines this the heritages from Tajik and Persian origins to create beatiful harmonies. Just take her Yallah Habibi, it is simply irresistible.

Iranian pop: Shahab Tiam

Shahab Tiam is originally from Iran, but now is a US citizen. He makes uptempo persian pop music with rhythms to die for, see for example Bezan Tar.
