Kpop: Rainbow Blaxx (레인보우 블랙)

As seen in earlier kpop releases this winter, the "sexy" style is being explored to its fullest (?) right now with better (Girl's Day, Dal Shabet) and  not equally good (AoA, Gary) results, but I wonder if not the new Rainbow sub-unit from LOEN Entertainment, Rainbow Blaxx, is maybe an even better example that, like all other choices of styling, it may be both good and bad depending on the aestetical and promotional choices made. Quality shine through, you could say. Rainboq Blaxx debut track is musically neither good or bad, just bland, but the video is just what I'd have to call tacky. To be slightly ironic,  even though it circles around eating, "Cha Cha" is somewhat lacking in the tasteful department. It doesn't add anything to the genre and is easily forgotten.

Kpop: Navi (나비)

This was really going to be about Phantom's comeback track "New Era", but as LOEN entertainment so ridicously showed a stripper instead of Navi, who does a central part of the singing. I dont really object to the explicit sexuality (even though its unusual for kpop) so much as not letting the female counterpart feature due to ?what? reasons. I mean she's even quite beautiful, too. So instead I am dedicating this one to Navi ;-P
PS And yes, New Era is a nice song regardless of the videos shortcomings... DS

Kpop: Girl's Day - Female President (여자대통령)

If you didn't know it, Korea elected their first female president ever last December, Park Geun-hye (which btw I had no problems missing as I happened to be in Seoul at that time...). Girl's Day haven't missed it anyways, as their new song "Female President" obviously takes its cue from this to advance female empowerment in relations. Go grllls, they say! From the video, which is not bad at all, well its quite nice actually, one could make a lot of ironic observations about double messages, but hey, its kpop we are talking about. I would rather compare it to their song from earlier this year, Expect, which was my favorite song the first quarter of 2013. The video of F.P. does a good job to reach Expects standards, but Expects lyrics and their braces dance is really on another level (again: I loooove you LOEN for providing lyrics to your videos!). It isn't that F.P. is bad, because it isn't, its just that Expect is a classic. F.P. is clearly worth watching a number of times, but I don't honestly don't think it will grace my Samsung S4 playlists that much. Still, nicely done again, Girl's Day!

Kpop: Gavy NJ - Farewell Cinema (이별극장)

I usually isn't that into kpop ballads, but there is something special about Gavy NJ's "Farewell Cinema". Which is strange as it is really just your typical korean ballad. I'm not sure, but it strikes something in my combined sentimental and at the same time ironic 70's roots. It's like, they are both serious but at the same time you feel they are kidding you a little. There is really not much going on in the video, but they do sing passionately. Far be it for me to reject a song if my gut tells me I like it. ^_^
