Even though kpop/jpop/mandopop etc is the probably the way Asian music is perceived in the rest of the world, there also exists other modern genres that are very much alive. As I am a metal fan since far back, I would like to tell you of
Chthonic from Taiwan. They are a black metal band that combines all the classical metal elements familiar from the west (screaming voices and heavy sounds but with a strong melodic component and guitar solos) with local instruments and some traditional song sequences. Anyone normally into metal should give this a go.
